Opening Speech by Jarmo Nieminen:

Ladies and Gentleman,
I am very happy and honored to be able to open  Orr Máté’s exhibition. Thank You for this special opportunity, Ari and Máté.
And nice to see so many enthusiastic art lovers  here today.

I remember the evening, the second of March last year – it was snowing heavily here in Budapest. I was lucky to be inside this warm and cozy gallery attending the opening of the first solo exhibition of Orr Máté. I left the place with mixed thoughts. I was not very much impressed by the paintings, but something was anyway bothering me. I was uncertain of my judgment and first reaction.

Since that a lot of things have happened.
I had to accept, that my first impression of Mate’s works was wrong.

Step by step his art has occupied me. His paintings has become part of my daily life. I am now facing some of them  in my home and in my working place. I am always anxiously waiting to see Máté’s new works.

During the past year I have been lucky to get to know the person behind the paintings, too. This extremely talented, determined, hard working painter and a warm-hearted, thoughtful and positive thinking private person has also conquered my mind.

There is a big pile of art movements in the world.
One could say, that Máté’s paintings have features from multiple of different movements. Classical- , magical-, contemporary- and photo realism, figurative surrealism and so on. If I should categorize his art, I would then simply call it  ORRISM.

For me his style means for example:
Intellectual, inspiring  game, where viewer’s role is to see familiar things and objects from everyday life  out of their normal meaning or location.  World between reality and fantasy. Multiple meaning, mysterious and puzzling content. Playing exciting way with animal and human figures,  composition, perspective, materials, forms, dimensions, symbols, colors,  size of objects, time and space elements.
Skillfully painted detailed motives. Special painting technique to create optical illusions
Works, which may also be funny, making you laugh and feel good.
Many topics are easy to approach  inspiring you to observe more

Today we have in front of us works of art, where you see masterfully painted detailed images      beside  drawn,  less detailed figures ,    all with great color composition.  Mastered game with food and cutlery motives making our senses and imagination to move between reality and fantasy world.  The skillfully adapted painting techniques creates optical illusions  to fulfill the viewer’s appetite.

Máté graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts last year. Before that he already received the Ari S. Kupsus salon Concert Society’s scholarship in 2010 as one of the most promising young talents.

I have witnessed his development and growth as a painter  for one year, including this exhibition , and I can honestly say , that the roadmap in front of him    will be filled with successful occasions.

I would like to thank You, Ari,  for supporting Máté in so many ways and for arranging this fantastic exhibition, too. I am very excited and thankful  to be here,  surrounded by these inspiring works of yours, Máté.

I am in a very good mood to officially open this exhibition. I think all of you here agree, that the best way of doing that is to give a warm and loud applause to  Kupsus Ari and particularly to Orr Máté.
